We have needed to purchase taller, lighted buoys for most of our sites to meet new Coast Guard requirements under new permits.  These buoys are about $800 each, with several already purchased and the donor’s name on select buoys. We’ll keep those names on display for a few years at least, if not the life of the buoys.  We have several other sites available for naming rights as well.

Later we’ll need new buoys for the deepest shipwrecks on our permit, Eber Ward and Minneapolis, once we determine how to install the proper bottom system – it is much more difficult as we go deeper!  The Young, like the Stalker, will not likely gain Coast Guard approval for the new buoys due to their locations too close to designated shipping lanes.

Donations toward buoys, line, or hardware are greatly appreciated !  Or have your name placed on one of the smaller buoys (for the current season) for a $100 donation.  We still have to use the smaller buoys, under our older permits, until we can rework the entire mooring to meet the new permit requirements.  The new permits still allow us to use the smaller buoys on the shallow sites, such as Albemarle, Henry Clay, Leviathan, Genesee Chief, C.H. Johnson, and Myrtie Ross.
